Lisa Walker

Born in the the American West and transplanted to the East Coast at 9, Lisa’s childhood was a combination of mountain culture and NYC suburbs living. These gave her a unique view on the life and culture around her.

During her AP Senior Art Class a representative from Tyler School of Art visited her class, and changed her life. The world of what art could be became wide open. Despite the reluctance from her parents she decided to against engineering school and went to art school. It was during her foundation year that she fell in love with design and photography. That love took her to study abroad in Rome where she got to dive into her creativity.

Lisa was recruited from school to work for Hallmark Cards, where she spent a year designing and illustrating cards for Fresh Ink and gift wrap for Target. After a year at Hallmark the West started calling and Lisa started applying for jobs in the Rocky Mountains. A few months later a job came up in Jackson, Wyoming, and dream come true. For the next ten years she worked designing in-house and freelance.

In 2012 as the value of graphic design was going down, she became frustrated by clients unwilling to pay for custom work. She started looking into specializing her design business, she was also looking for a way to sit a the computer less. Back at Hallmark she had done a sewing workshop, something that she had always wanted to explore more. So she convinced a client to do a project that would require a sewing machine, bought a machine and taught herself how to sew. It was a like a new world had opened up, she loved buying fabric and patterning her own pieces. One day as she was cleaning up her kids wood blocks she decided to use them to hand stamp some fabric. That day another door opened, while driving through the National Park up to their favorite summer pot it all became very clear, she wanted to design her own fabric. She stared with hand stamping and quickly moved into drawing her own designs and screen printing them onto fabric.

Every aspect of Lisa Walker Handmade is custom. The textiles are all hand drawn, the fabric is screen printed and products are all patterned by Lisa in her home work studio where she live with her family. This is a true labor of love.
